The Writing section consists of multiple choice questions which involves error identification as well as sentence and paragraph improvement questions and one brief essay. Scientific, four-function and graphing calculators are permitted in SAT for mathematics section. The 20-minute section is entirely multiple choice comprising of 16 questions. There is no penalty for wrong answers of grid-in questions but there is negative marking for wrong answer of multiple choice questions. The grid-in questions need to be answered inside a grid on the answer sheet. The other 25-minute section consists of 8 multiple choice and 10 grid-in questions. The Mathematics section similarly consists of two 25-minute and one 20-minute section of which one 25- minute section is entirely multiple choice, with 20 questions. The Critical Reading section consists of two 25-minute sections and one 20-minute section containing different type of questions, including sentence completions and questions about short and long reading passages. There are ten sub sections, which also include an additional twenty five minute experimental or equating section whose score is not counted in total score. Every section is further divided into 3 parts. Every section has maximum 800 points, thus you can score a maximum of 2400 in SAT. It comprises of 3 sections: Mathematics, Writing and Critical Reading. It takes three hours and forty five minutes to finish this test and costs USD 51 (USD 91 International). It is administered by the Educational Testing Services. It is owned and developed independently by the College Board, a non-profit organization in the United States.
